Choose who can follow you...

Dave
suggested this on September 26, 2010 16:46

We're currently developing some new filtering options that will allow you to choose who you offer credits to, and who in turn can follow you. Some of the main features we have in mind are the following:

- Choose followers from a certain country

- Choose only to offer at certain times of day

- Choose only to offer to low-risk members

- Choose only to offer to users who have been members for a while

- Choose to exclude members who have a track record of aggressive unfollowing

This is just some of them, so stay tuned..!

How about an affiliate/referral program that gets us cash instead of credits?

rpmusicinc  I agree with you, I only unfollow people who use foul language, or offer foul sentiment, but i would like more music orientated people to follow me, not corporate, tweet power pluggers etc, people look at my followers and often comment that the people following me dont make sense!! Dave you are a legend.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for this great free service!

How about a filter that allows me to choose gender and age?  My target audience is females 25-50, there are too many others that don't fit this and are a waste of credits etc.

THANKS!

This is a wonderful idea. I would choose to let those who are known for unfollowing quickly and high risk members to not be able to follow me. This would help especially with us members who pay twiends!!

I would like to choose by age. My product is for people > 35 (and sweet spot is 45-65) so anyone less than 30 is really not relevant for me.

Nice service. Thanks.

If I follow a user, it is very rarely that I unfollow. I do unfollow immediately if I find any unproper material or links to unproper material.

For the aggresive unfollowers, would it be something to them know their statuses, so if they are not aware they are aggresive unfollowers, they would know.

Regards.

I just came to know about twiends a few days ago and I saw it on the first page on google's search. It was a sponsored link which means someone paid google adwords to put the ad up there. I believe that if you create a page dedicated for people to track their referrals, it would be easier for them to refer others instead of only tweeting others. 10% credit perks from each referral such as what "jennynoon31" mentioned is also a great strategy for people to implement. Splash pages, capture pages, and squeeze pages are some additional tools you may want to add. This can be really helpful for those promoting in traffic exchanges.

Overall, great job with the site! Looking forward to tremendous development in the next few months!

It appears that the way forward Dave, is to simply have a keyword filter, and for simplicity make it from a standardised list. The user may specify their interests, and the recipient the same.

Thanks for all the great feedback. Keep it coming..!

Much of what has been suggested is doable, so good news there..! There is varying complexity for each filter option we add, such as age, gender, country, business/personal, industry, etc. For example, if we offer a gender option, then we need a way to determine gender. We have to do this in a way that doesn't contravene privacy laws too.

But we think this is the way forward. Ultimately we want to give everyone TOTAL control over who they offer their credits to. We also want to provide complete transparency over where the credits went. So we'll be looking to add reports as well, to show who followed you and who unfollowed you. Control and transparency, I guess that summarizes where we are going next..!

But I wont lie to you all, it requires a lot of infrastructure to make it all happen. But we'll get there..

Keep the ideas coming..!

I don't see how the gender option is a privacy risk.  It's basic information most most websites ask for. You could easily ask for that when people sign up. I would not be offended if I saw that question.  I have a website for women and male subscribers are not my target audience at all.

I have 837 people not following me back from here.  I don't like it when people don't follow back.  I have unfollowed many because of that, so I could follow people that follow back.

Highlight people who have auto follow back on their account.

Highlight people who promise to follow back. They can always decide to unfollow you later if they find you offensive or uninteresting, but they should follow you for a week or so to give you a chance!

Differentiate between people who aggressively follow and unfollow indiscriminatingly and those who follow, give the person a week or so to follow back, and then have no choice but to unfollow because of Twitter's restriction on the following to follower ratio. I often have to unfollow people who don't follow me back after a while or my network will never grow. There should be NO penalty for unfollowing someone who doesn't follow you back after a reasonable amount of time - why would i want to follow someone that doesn't care about what I have to say? That's like stalking, rather than networking and making connections with people. I don't like one sided relationships!

Let me weed out people who have already followed and unfollowed me.

Let us tweet out a promo tweet ONCE A DAY - not per week! Once a day is not at all spammy and will help grow the Twiends community, which benefits everyone!

How about if you follow someone, they automatically follow back.  That way it would be more fair.  I quit getting emails from Twitter on who my new followers were, because my mail box would be full, but if it was an automatic follow it would be awesome.

September 26, 2010 21:57.
User photo

it would be better for everyone to follow back.  And the people who unfollow to take points away from them.

Also for the people who are at a high risk to give them another chance to follow everyone back and lower the risk level over time.

Encourage Twitter to get rid of their 2,000 follow limit. I have been stuck there for over a year...and even using Twiends I can't get there--people follow and then immediately unfollow me because I can't follow them back and I don't want to undelete everyone as I have them divided into lists, etc.

I think this two will be great updates.

Choose followers from a certain country.

Choose to exclude members who have a track record of aggressive unfollowing.

Auto follow will also be helpful so we don't have to follow new followers one by one. It's tiring sometimes. :)

Frankly, low risks member would be cool, plus, more specific shared interests would definitely be a plus.

I would suggest "Choose followers from same country."

Coz one of the reason why you follow a person is because you can relate on his/her tweets. You understand what he/she is saying, you understand his/her language. Now if you don't/can't understand a person's tweets you simply unfollow him/her. So that's one reason why you get unfollows.

Propably the idea of anyone following another through twiends should only be once. Anyone who follows me once would not be allowed to follow me another time, maybe in a preselected time or permanent, this will make it not possible for those who keeps following and unfollowing me all the time.

I noticed that some users have followed me many times, which means that every time they follow me, they unfollow me after a few days. The point is so clear that they want to take my credit.

I am not sure this is the right place or if it would be a feature request. I would honestly suggest an IP check when it comes to account creation if it is not in place already. The reason i suggest this is because it seems like a lot of twiiter accounts are being used an deleted or used an suspended.

Yes but choosing by interest is the most important. Choosing by interest will stop people who may "like" or "follow" you just for credits rather than interest.

Next is language. Ir really doesn't matter to me if a "like" or "follow" is from another country. Rather it is more important if they can speak the language of the admin.

Twiends isn't worthless.... but..... well I can see how to follow people.  But it doesn't tell me anything about them.  I would like to follow people who have similar interests to me, and I would like relevant people following me back, but at the moment I can't find them, I can just follow people randomly.  The only choice I have is whether I like their picture (and some are lovely), and how many credits I want to gain (surely the most expensive as there is not other differentiator apart from the picture)

Dave,

Choosing who can like by interest will stop people who may "like" or "follow" you just for credits rather than interest. For example, i have some christian fan pages I'd love to use on Twiends, but i know what kind of crowd return I'd get. This isn't a problem for my other seccular pages. I wish ywe could determine the interest of the people who can like or follow. That would be awesome! And a very powerful tool. Of couse any user could select all interest to get max credits for max likes, but it would help to discourage this and make it less likely to occur.

Also dave, i would like to see a feature where you could find away to give people credits for suggesting a facebook page to facebook friends, or sharing a link, or post a link on a fan page.

For just an example, you can earn 10 credits for every 10 friends you suggest a particular page to.

Hey Dave

Firstly Great Website Just started using it a few days ago, Its just what i wanted!

I discovered it in a blog about how to get more facebook fans without advertising.

Also I was just wondering, I have a Facebook Page directed at Australian females. Is there any chance you could introduce a system that would allow me to target this demographic, as many of the people who 'like' my page are males and are from other countries and although this is not "bad" its not something i would prefer to be happening but in saying this it would dramatically slow down the current amount of likes I am currently receiving. Also would there be enough members on your website at this stage that fit this description?

Thank-you so much
