Please note, this feature is currently in beta, which means it’s still experimental and may change.
Auto follow back allows you to follow back users that follow you through twiends. You can turn it on on the settings page. It’s the only form of automated following that twitter allows, as described in their article on automation:
https://support.twitter.com/articles/76915-automation-rules-and-bes...
How does it work:
When you turn it on we automatically follow people back for you. We also take care to use the method you choose. You can choose to follow anyone back, or you can place some restrictions in place, such as only following back those with seeds or those that are still following you after a day. These restrictions allow you to follow back members who are more likely to reciprocate the following over time.
It’s important to note that it’s not mandatory to follow people back on twitter, and is in fact not the main use-case for twitter. Typically people just follow those whose tweets they are interested in following. Some users do like to reciprocate follows though, and this feature is primarily for them.
Do you follow everyone back?
No, there are a number of additional restrictions placed on following, even if you set your profile to follow back anyone. Firstly, twitter places a limit on the number of people you can follow relative to your own follower count, and also places limits on daily following. When we hit one of these limits we pause your follow backs and try again after a certain amount of time. Errors may also occur on the person’s account you are trying to follow back, and finally, the twitter API can also experience temporary issues. Also, if your authentication info expires then follow-backs will stop. We’ll try create the follow back for you over time, but will eventually drop the attempt after a few days. Due to these limits and issues you should not expect to follow everyone back.
Can I stop it?
Yes, just deselect it on your twitter settings and we’ll stop it straight away.
Since I turned it on I can’t follow more people?
Please check if you’ve hit a follow limit. You can only follow 1000 people a day, or a specific total number overall. When you follow people back you might hit one of these limits. It’s your responsibility to make sure you stay within twitter’s limits. We’ll also stop attempting to follow people for you if we detect an issue. Please see the following article for information on twitter’s follow limits:

I only seem to follow back a few people?
While this feature is in beta we are placing a restriction on the total number of follow backs for each user. We'll increase these limits over time.
